UV-5G Repeater Config

  • radio

The UV-5G will not let you save settings in Channel mode. We must enter all the settings in VFO mode and then overwrite the desired channel.

1. How the UV-5G Menu Works

  • Press MENU to enter the menu.
  • In the menu, press UP or DOWN to select the setting you want to change, or type the menu number on the keypad (recommended).
  • After about 5 seconds of inactivity the radio automatically exits the menu. Pressing MENU again brings you back to the setting you were previously on.
  • Once you find the setting you want to change, press MENU again. A small arrow moves from the top row to the bottom row. This indicates you are now changing that setting.
  • Most settings can be changed with UP and DOWN. Some settings require you to enter numbers on the keypad, including leading zeros (05, not 5).
  • Once you have changed the setting to what you want, press MENU again to confirm the change. The little arrow moves back up to the top row.
  • When in doubt, press EXIT to exit the menu.

2. Factory Reset the UV-5G

A factory reset will wipe all of the settings. If you already tried programming a repeater and your radio is in an unknown state, then do the reset. If you have settings that you don't want to lose, then skip this step.

  1. RESET (MENU 40) RESET ALL
  2. When the display shows SOURCE?, press MENU again to confirm.
  3. Wait for the reset to complete.

3. Program Repeater Channel

The following is an example of how to program 16R with CTCSS tone 77.0Hz. Use the chart below to swap to a different channel/frequency.

First press the orange VFO/MR button on the front of the radio to switch to Frequency Mode and type 462575 on the keypad. Use the settings menu to change the following settings. Remember to hit MENU to confirm a change.

Menu Setting Value
MENU 13 T-CTCS 77.0 Hz
MENU 25 SFT-D +
MENU 26 OFFSET 005000
MENU 27 MEM-CH 024

Finally, press the orange VFO/MR button to return to Channel Mode and type 024 on the keypad or use the UP and DOWN buttons to find REPTR2.

You should be good to go now. Pressing the PTT button will transmit using the 77.0 Hz CTCSS tone to activate the repeater.
